The Wonders of Our Lady: An interview with Statue Custodian, Patrick Sabat
Soul Magazine, Winter 2016
Patrick Sabat began accompanying the International Pilgrim Statue in 2003 and is the full time statue custodian. He has delivered over 2,000 presentations on Fatima to thousands of people.
There are many reasons people come to see the statue; some out of curiosity, others to seek physical or spiritual healing; some are miracle hunters. They all want to see the statue for different reasons, but most people “see” differently upon looking into her eyes. They see a concerned, loving Mother with a message for all her children. Many people ask Patrick if she makes everyone cry when they look into her eyes.
Many people share how quickly then Blessed Mother responds to their prayers. Some have confided that they asked Our Lady’s help in finding their dream job and their cell phones were ringing with job offers before they exited the church.
The idea for a Pilgrim Virgin Statue came about in 1947 when the world needed it after World War II. The mission was not merely to bring the statue of Our Lady of Fatima to the whole world, but more importantly, to share the message that Our Blessed Mother had given to all the nations.
The International Pilgrim Statue was blessed by the Bishop of Fatima in 1947 and by Pope Pius XII in 1952. In our statue tour program, we emphasize the need to focus not merely on the statue but on the message of our Catechist Mother, and to confirm the reality of that message through the evidence of our own faith.
Obviously America needs Our Lady and her Message even more today because of its relevance and urgency. People continue to offend the Lord greatly with their sins and blasphemies. The world itself is still at war with evil. Or have we allowed selfishness and pride and all level of sins to reign in our family and our country. I hope America gets back to its knees in prayer, stands up for the truth and leads the world to a time of peace promised by Our Lady of Fatima. I hope to celebrate in America the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
